Song Analyze

In the song,” Many Men” 50 cent uses brilliant simile, potent rhyming, and colorful religious references to convey the hardship and struggle to be a rising artist who almost died due to celebrity status.

First example of 50 cent using brilliant simile is when he makes comments towards Muhammad Ali for being the greatest at what he does. “When I rhyme, something special happen every time I’m the greatest, something like Ali in his prime”. 50 cent is saying he is the greatest rapper like Muhammad Ali was the greatest boxer.  Next example of brilliant simile when he compares himself to a very important Italian mob leader.” I’m like paulie in goodfellas, you can call me the don.” 50 cent is saying he is as important to a leader in a very successful organized family mob. Last example of brilliant simile in,”Many Men” 50 cent compares himself to a very important black figure in his day.” Like malcolm by any means, with my gun in my palm.” He saying he is just has violent has Malcolm X when he has a weapon on him.

Besides brilliant simile, 50 cent also incorporates potent rhyming in the song,” Many Men”. First example of potent rhyming is when he expresses pleasure and hardship.” Some days wouldn’t be special, if it wasn’t for rain Joy wouldn’t feel so good, if it wasn’t for pain”. He rhymes rain and pain in such a way that they contradict either other because rain is a pleasant thing while pain is something not many people to experience. Second example is when 50 cent uses potent rhyming to describe when he safe and when he got hurt.” I walk the block with the bundles
I’ve been knocked on the humble”. Walking the block with the bundles, his gang, and he is gets hurt for not being arrogant.
Last example of potent rhyming is when 50 cent talks understanding reality and today’s racism.” I don’t see only God can judge me, ’cause I see things clear Quick these crackers will give my black ass a hundred years.” 50 cent is saying he does the things he does because of today’s justice system and racism; he had to crime sins to succeed in life.

Brilliant simile and potent rhyming are key concepts in the “Many Men” but so is the colorful religious reference he makes during the course of the song. First example of colorful religious reference is when he says he calls out to god but gets no answers.” Every night I talk to god, but he don’t say nothing back”. 50 cent tries to have a relationship with god, but god denies him due to his sins. Next example of colorful religious reference is when he quotes the bible.” In the Bible it says, what goes around, comes around.” Due to 50 cent’s violent history when he got shot, somebody else got shot as well. Last example of colorful religious references is when he says god judges him.” I don’t see only God can judge me, ’cause I see things clear.” It is said that god is unbiased; therefore to be judged by him you must have committed a lot of sins to do such a thing, which 50 cent believes is justifiable.

“Many Men” by 50 cent has a lot of intricate apprehension that you really have to analyze so you can find the brilliant similes, potent rhyming, and colorful religious references to truly understand the hardship and struggle to be a rising artist who almost died due to celebrity status.
